Job summary

Indiana University Health System seeks a Nurse Ethicist to build and manage relationships with nursing leadership and frontline staff to address urgent ethics needs. This role includes supporting reporting, mentoring fellows, serving on committees, and providing on-call ethics expertise.

The candidate will hold a terminal degree (PhD, DPN or equivalent), maintain an active Indiana RN license or NLC, and meet HEC-C certification requirements.

Qualifications

  • PhD, DPN, or other commensurate terminal degree required.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • 3-5 years of clinical ethics experience.
  • Active RN license in Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • HEC-C certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage collaborative relationships with nursing leadership and floor staff to identify ethics needs.
  • Support departmental reporting and dissemination of ethics work.
  • Mentor ethics fellows according to interests and expertise.
  • Participate in committees and serve as on-call ethics faculty (20% time annually).
  • Support ethics policy development from a nursing perspective.
  • Contribute to scholarship and strategic initiatives in ethics with nursing leadership.
  • Facilitate and manage the UBEC program in collaboration with FCME.
  • Coach bedside nurses on ethical issues and moral distress.
