Position: Nurse Educator
Type: Full-Time or Part-Time, primarily day shift, with some flexibility to meet educational needs. Typically no weekends, but some support for classes on off-shifts or weekends may be required.
Location: UPMC Hamot Hospital

• BSN (or MSN if obtained in a program not conferring BSNs)
• 3 years of clinical experience

Depending on education, experience, and leadership discretion, additional levels such as Clinical Education Specialist may be considered, requiring:

• MSN or Master’s in a related field (BSN required if Master’s is in a related field)
• 3 years of clinical experience

The Nurse Educator is a registered nurse responsible for delivering nursing education, including orientation, ongoing training, and support. The role requires demonstrating educational skills to assess, plan, and implement educational programs.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain positive relationships through mentoring and effective communication.
• Participate in quality improvement efforts, utilizing research and evidence-based practice.
• Serve as a mentor and resource for staff and preceptors, supporting professional development.
• Facilitate orientation and continuing education programs, using the nursing process to guide staff in patient care management.
• Lead in developing nursing standards and policies, and respond to staff learning needs.
• Engage in hospital-wide projects, problem-solving, and innovation to improve outcomes.
• Verify staff competencies and address training gaps.
