The Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) at Yale New Haven Health System facilitates the professional growth of nurses and healthcare personnel along the continuum from novice to expert, based on the Nursing Practice standards.

Responsibilities

  • Education: Assess learning needs based on regulatory requirements, evidence-based practice, and staff needs.
  • Role Development: Support development of nursing leadership skills in staff and self, promoting professional practice and quality care.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Represent nursing in interprofessional learning activities.
  • Champion of Scientific Inquiry: Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives.
  • Orientation: Develop and evaluate competency-based orientation programs.
  • Competency Management and Ongoing Education: Develop initial and ongoing competencies with education teams.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree or higher; at least one in nursing (BS or MS). Candidates must be enrolled in a Master’s program, completing by 6/1/2027.

Experience: 3-5 years of active nursing, 1 year of relevant teaching preferred, experience in staff development or specialty area preferred.

Licensure: RN license in CT/RI and Nursing Board Certification within 2 years of hire.

Skills: Ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs.

Physical Demands: Support assigned areas and travel as needed across YNHHS entities.
