Job summary

Saint Michael's Medical Center in Newark, NJ, seeks a Nurse Assistant for the Med Surg/Telemetry Department. This per diem role supports the care team in daily nursing activities and helps maintain a safe patient environment under RN supervision.

Required CNA certification and current BLS, plus knowledge of medical terminology. Prior acute care or physician’s office experience is preferred to ensure high‑quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate upon hire, preferred.
• Current BLS (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
• Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology.
• Minimum six months previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office preferred.
• Current Behavioral Violence Prevention (BVP) certificate within 6 months of hire and maintain current.

Responsibilities

• The Nurse Assistant in the Med Surg/Telemetry Department assists with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-critical patients and helps maintain a safe environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.
