Job summary

The MetroHealth System in Cleveland, OH is seeking a highly skilled Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join its Anesthesia Care Team (ACT). The CRNA works with staff anesthesiologists, SRNAs and residents to provide comprehensive anesthesia care for a wide range of procedures.

Responsibilities include pre-anesthetic assessment, anesthesia administration, and post-anesthetic care, under physician direction.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited BSN program.
• Current Ohio RN Licensure.
• Graduate of a Masters or Doctoral nurse anesthesia program accredited by COACRNA.
• Current CRNA certification by NBCRNA.
• Current ACLS & BLS Certifications.
• Demonstrates current competency in clinical responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-anesthetic assessment, discuss anesthetic management with staff anesthesiologist.
• Assemble, prepare, and test supplies, equipment and monitors for anesthesia.
• Select, obtain, and administer the anesthetic plan (induction, maintenance, emergence).
• Administer anesthesia types including inhalation, IV, spinal, epidural, and nerve blocks.
• Recognize physiologic changes during anesthesia and notify physician as needed.
• Transfer patient to postoperative area and assist in postop care.
• Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives within MHS.

Hours

Monday-Friday

80 hours biweekly, Shift variability upon request, minimal in-house weekend call requirement

Education Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Current Ohio RN Licensure
• Graduate of a Masters or Doctoral nurse anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COACRNA)
• Current Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA)
• Current ACLS & BLS Certifications
• Demonstrates current competency in the clinical responsibilities specified below.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform a pre-anesthetic assessment, discuss anesthetic management, and administer anesthesia, all with the consultation of an appropriate staff anesthesiologist in accordance with accepted standards of professional practice, and licensing laws.
• Assemble, prepare, and test needed supplies, equipment and monitors prior to an anesthetic.
• Selects, obtains and administers the anesthetic plan of care, including induction, maintenance and emergence phases of anesthesia.
• Administer various types of anesthesia, including inhalation, intravenous, spinal, epidural, and peripheral nerve blocks. All anesthesia is administered under the medical direction of staff anesthesiologists.
• Recognizes alterations in physiologic responses to the surgical procedure and/or the anesthetic, takes appropriate action and notifies the responsible physician as indicated
• Transfer the patient to the appropriate postoperative area and assist in the postoperative care.
• Participate in the quality improvement activities and research initiatives within MHS.

Physical Requirements

• Requires full range of motion; manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time and the ability to lift and transport patients.
• Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
• Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
• Ability to work under extreme pressure.
