Job summary

The MetroHealth System is seeking a qualified CRNA to join our Anesthesia Care Team at multiple facilities in Cleveland, OH. You will provide anesthesia services in collaboration with Staff Anesthesiologists, SRNAs, Residents, CAAs and SAAs to support high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities include pre-anesthetic assessment, anesthesia administration (inhalation, IV, spinal, epidural, nerve blocks), equipment preparation, and participation in quality improvement initiatives to advance

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Graduate of a COACRNA-accredited nurse anesthesia program.
• Current NBCRNA Certification as a CRNA.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-anesthetic assessment and discuss anesthetic management with staff anesthesiologist.
• Assemble, prepare, and test needed supplies, equipment and monitors.
• Select and administer anesthesia including induction, maintenance and emergence.
• Administer inhalation, IV, spinal, epidural, and peripheral nerve blocks under supervision.
• Recognize physiological changes and notify the physician as needed.
• Transfer patient to postoperative area and assist in postoperative care.
• Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives at MHS.

Hours

Monday-Friday

80 hours biweekly, Shift variability upon request, minimal in-house weekend call requirement

Education Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Graduate of a Masters or Doctoral nurse anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COACRNA)
• Current Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA)
• Demonstrates current competency in the clinical responsibilities specified below.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform a pre-anesthetic assessment, discuss anesthetic management, and administer anesthesia, all with the consultation of an appropriate staff anesthesiologist in accordance with accepted standards of professional practice, and licensing laws.
• Assemble, prepare, and test needed supplies, equipment and monitors prior to an anesthetic.
• Selects, obtains and administers the anesthetic plan of care, including induction, maintenance and emergence phases of anesthesia.
• Administer various types of anesthesia, including inhalation, intravenous, spinal, epidural, and peripheral nerve blocks. All anesthesia is administered under the medical direction of staff anesthesiologists.
• Recognizes alterations in physiologic responses to the surgical procedure and/or the anesthetic, takes appropriate action and notifies the responsible physician as indicated
• Transfer the patient to the appropriate postoperative area and assist in the postoperative care.
• Participate in the quality improvement activities and research initiatives within MHS.

• Requires full range of motion; manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time and the ability to lift and transport patients.
• Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
• Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
• Ability to work under extreme pressure.
