Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk in Patchogue, NY seeks a Nurse Aide for Med Surg 3S on nights. Under the supervision of the registered nurse, you perform routine nursing duties to support patient care, maintain clean rooms, and assist with diagnostic preparation.

Responsibilities include delivering basic care, responding to call lights, monitoring patients, assisting with daily living activities, documenting data, and collaborating with the team to ensure safe, high-quality care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification (AHA) and first aid training.
• De-escalation training provided on job.
• Ability to read and write at an elementary school level to understand the patient’s plan of care and to record data.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations at an elementary school level to take and record vital signs, I&O.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
• Basic analytical skills to gather data, compare, interpret and document outcomes.
• Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver basic nursing care to meet patient needs and comfort.
• Respond to patient call lights promptly and relay information to nursing staff.
• Observe patient condition and report any changes to the nurse.
• Assist with activities of daily living and personal hygiene.
• Prepare rooms and equipment for diagnostic procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
• Participate in patient rounds and safety checks.
• Follow Falls Prevention Program measures and safety practices.
• Collaborate with the unit and other departments to improve patient care.
• Attend educational programs to maintain competence and compliance.
