Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Nurse Aide for the Med Surg 3N unit. This full‑time day shift role involves performing routine nursing duties under RN supervision to support patient care, maintain clean rooms, and prepare spaces and equipment for procedures.

Responsibilities include delivering basic nursing care, responding to call lights, monitoring patient status, aiding daily activities, and assisting with feeding and safety, while collaborating with staff to ensure high quality

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS (AHA) certification and first aid training.
• De-escalation training provided on the job.
• Ability to read and write at elementary school level to document care.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic for weight, vitals, I&O.
• Interpersonal skills to interact with patients and families.
• Basic analytical skills to interpret data in the medical record.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver basic nursing care to provide for patient needs and comfort.
• Respond promptly to patient call lights and relay needs to the nurse.
• Observe patients and report changes promptly.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (nutrition, ambulation, hygiene, toileting).
• Adapt care to individual patient needs.
• Provide direct nursing care: vital signs, baths, skin care, catheter care, specimen collection as per policy.
• Demonstrate proper turning, positioning and transferring techniques.
• Distribute nourishment and assist with feeding as needed; record intake.
• Maintain a clean, safe patient environment; prepare equipment for return to Central Service.
