Job summary

Tidewater Community College seeks an experienced Nurse Aide Instructor to lead a hands-on CNA exam-preparation course within its non-credit Workforce Solutions program. The role is adjunct and will be taught across campus sites and online as needed.

Instructors must plan and teach in classroom or synchronous online settings, using effective evaluation methods and clear communication with students. Flexible days/evenings/weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated competency in a relevant health care or professional services field.
• Ability to design and or implement lesson plans that align learning objectives with student outcomes.
• Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate the diversity of community college students to promote acquisition and application of knowledge.
• Completion of the Train‑the‑Trainer course is required if the RN or LPN does not already have documented experience as an adult educator, per VABON requirements for Nurse Aide training.
• Excellent communication (orally and written) and organizational skills.
• Must hold an active, unrestricted registered nurse (RN) license with a minimum of two years of nursing experience, including at least one year in long-term care.
• Ability to communicate effectively in an electronic format.

Responsibilities

• Create a learning environment that facilitates knowledge and skills acquisition.
• Align activities with course learning outcomes and provide prompt feedback.
• Deliver instruction and assess student learning within required timelines.
• Schedule may include day, evening, or weekend sessions.
• Hold at least 1 office hour per week for each course assigned.
