Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Subject Matter Expert to design, test, and analyze nuclear survivable systems for the Ballistic Missile Defense System. You will work with the Weapon Control Concepts Development Group to analyze nuclear environments and mitigate adverse effects.

You will interact with sponsors and program managers, develop analysis tools, and guide senior technical discussions.

Qualifications

  • MS in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or other applicable technical discipline.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of nuclear physics.
  • 5+ years of DoD experience related to Survivability in Nuclear environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills and a self-starter.
  • Ability and willingness to interact with Government Sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Active Secret clearance and eligibility for TS/SCI clearance (U.S. citizenship).
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analysis efforts related to Nuclear Survivability.
  • Interface with MDA and other DoD Program Managers on Nuclear Survivability needs.
  • Recommend threat descriptions based on intelligence information including nuclear weapons outputs.
  • Improve computing resources and leverage external resources for computational support.
  • Develop strategies for performance modeling of weapon systems and nuclear threats.
  • Maintain relationships with government representatives to ensure coordination.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to develop and maintain analysis tools.
  • Participate in reviews of deliverables and sponsor discussions.
  • Work with a technical team to analyze third party results and coordinate with partners.
