Job summary

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Nuclear Scientist to join the Reactor Technology & Integration team on a 9x80 schedule with every other Friday off. The role develops and validates designs, performs integrated analyses for storage and safety, and prepares high-quality technical reports and publications.

The ideal candidate will have a physics/chemistry/mathematics background, experience in theoretical nuclear modeling, reactor safety analysis, and familiarity with MOOSE or similar tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree completed within the last 12 months from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Demonstrated experience in theoretical nuclear modeling.
• Exposure to nuclear reactor systems and safety analysis.
• Ideal: experience in reactor physics and analysis tools/methods.
• Ideal: experience with MOOSE or similar system codes.

Responsibilities

• Apply advanced nuclear engineering design principles, theories, and concepts.
• Use best practices in design methodologies to develop and validate designs.
• Document designs to ensure conformance with requirements and standards.
• Perform integrated analyses to meet storage, disposal, and facility safety requirements.
• Defend analytical methods and results in reviews.
• Develop and improve physics-based mathematical models and analysis methods.
• Prepare reports and peer-reviewed publications.
• Represent programs through technical presentations and at conferences.
• Participate in professional development activities.
