Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory is hiring a Radiological Controls Technician (RCT) to support the NPTU-Charleston MTS site in Goose Creek, SC. The role involves moving radioactive material, releasing materials, sampling, decontamination, and environmental monitoring to ensure safety and compliance.

The position requires RCTQS qualification, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to work a rotating schedule. Training and relocation costs for RCTQS are provided by the company.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and RCTQS qualified with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and RCTQS qualified and qualification as a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator (or commercial nuclear equivalent) with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Associates degree and RCTQS qualified with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelors degree and RCTQS qualified with 2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Move all radioactive material on site using a computer system.
  • Release radioactive material.
  • Count water and solid samples to release systems.
  • Decontaminate personnel wetted areas.
  • Qualify as mixed waste handler and as asbestos worker.
  • Wear a respirator, as required.
  • Perform environmental sampling (water, sediment, drains, biota, air).
  • Pack radioactive material for disposal and perform surveys.
