Job summary

U.S. Pacific Fleet is seeking a Nuclear Engineer to serve in the Business and Strategic Planning Office (Code 1200N) at Pearl Harbor NSY and IMF.

The role involves reviewing nuclear fiscal/technical requirements, developing modifications to nuclear programs, and leading projects to reduce costs while ensuring safe and effective nuclear operations. The ideal candidate will have formal engineering credentials, demonstrated experience with reactor systems, and the ability to produce complex reports

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or above GS-11 performing complex analytical studies to develop recommendations pertaining to reactor plant systems.
  • Experience with nuclear fiscal/technical requirements and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Ability to develop and modify nuclear instructions and programs to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Responsibilities

  • Review nuclear fiscal and technical requirements, instructions, and methodology to determine cost and budget effects on PHNSY and IMF operations.
  • Develop changes to nuclear instructions, operations, and programs considering changes to nuclear requirements.
  • Monitor nuclear work to identify high-cost areas needing investigation for efficiency improvements.
  • Coordinate development of new methodologies to improve nuclear work efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Coordinate/lead projects to reduce nuclear ship repair costs and improve efficiency of nuclear operations.
  • Investigate potential or existing nuclear problem areas and implement corrective actions.
  • Review nuclear Incident and Trouble Reports and coordinate actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Represent Nuclear Business Manager at conferences with shipyard and outside representatives.
  • Prepare detailed fiscal and technical reports on nuclear costs, schedules, and other parameters.
  • Provide oversight of advance planning for shipyard nuclear work.
