Job Summary and Qualifications

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist produces images following ARRT and NMTCB standards, operating within guidelines set by the Bureau of Radiation Control, hospital policies, and the radioactive materials license. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulations, providing services using radioisotopes for diagnosis or treatment, demonstrating knowledge of human anatomy, patient care, radiation safety, and specialized techniques. Maintains professional judgment, ethics, and a professional demeanor.

  • Provides patient-specific care, following service excellence standards for high patient satisfaction.
  • Produces high-quality scans for patients of all ages.
  • Follows protocols for imaging and isotope dosage, adjusting for age or disease as needed.
  • Operates Nuclear Medicine equipment efficiently.
  • Completes quality scans promptly, organizing workflow effectively.
  • Skilled in imaging trauma, acute, and challenging patients, adjusting techniques as needed.
  • Understands disease processes, images findings, and communicates with radiologists.
  • Performs radioactive therapy procedures per policies and licenses.
  • Adheres to ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure.
  • Follows radiation safety practices diligently.
  • Explains procedures clearly to patients and families, addressing misconceptions.
  • Maintains patient safety, privacy, confidentiality, and dignity at all times.

Education and Experience

  • Graduate from an accredited radiology program or equivalent military training.
  • Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • 2-3 years of radiologic tech experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) or ARRT registered technologist with primary certification in NM (ARRT (NM)).
  • Grandfathered Texas certification if applicable.
  • Transportation of Hazardous Radioactive Material certification.
  • BLS certification as per policy.
