Job Description
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Performs diagnostic Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures through the administration of radioactive isotopes to generate imaging information necessary for diagnosis and treatment. Also performs therapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assess and evaluate physician's orders for Nuclear Medicine examinations according to departmental protocol.
  2. Evaluate procedure requests and assess patients to determine appropriate protocols.
  3. Inform patients of radioactive isotope safety and radiation safety issues.
  4. Educate patients about the examination to reduce anxiety and improve comfort.
  5. Position patients and perform diagnostic imaging with gamma cameras, caring for patients throughout procedures.
  6. Assist in lifting and transporting patients.
  7. Act as physician assistant during sterile procedures like aspirations, drainages, and biopsies related to Nuclear Medicine.
  8. Notify physicians of significant changes in patient condition or imaging findings.
  9. Maintain medical records, including films and paperwork.

Additional Functions:

  1. Perform on-call stat procedures.
  2. Carry out miscellaneous duties assigned by supervisory staff.
  3. Conduct quality control testing and report equipment issues.
  4. Maintain examination room standards.
  5. Assist in medical education for staff and students.
  6. Coordinate scheduling and transportation of patients.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate or Bachelors degree from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Training Program.
  • CEUs to maintain licensure and accreditation.
  • ARRT or NMTCB certification.
  • IEMA-Division of Nuclear Safety licensure.
  • Experience in evaluating and caring for diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to manage patients safely during procedures considering their cognitive and physical abilities.

Preferred:

  • 3-5 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of Siemens e.soft environment.
