Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience as a nuclear medicine technologist.

Job description

Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Location: Upper East Side

Org Unit: Nuclear Cardiology Operations

Work Days: Monday-Friday

Weekly Hours:35.00

Exemption Status:Non-Exempt

Salary Range:$58.30-$64.84

*As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices

Position Summary

Under general guidance, operates specialized equipment to assist in the safe and efficient diagnosis and assessment of patient conditions, in accordance with established procedures This role also prepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic studies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assists current and new employees in the use of systems/equipment and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs quality control testing and machine calibrations in accordance with IAC or American College of Radiology (ACR) standards. Documents such testing & calibration in organized retrievable manner for inspection by ACR, IAC or other accrediting bodies.
  • Greets registered patients at time of visit and triages patients through the patient flow process. Checks schedules and accompanies patients to exam/procedure room. Assists patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing and preparing for exam.
  • Reviews and verifies patient identity, history and requisition for exam to be performed.
  • Takes appropriate scans to determine areas of possible pathology. Modifies testing parameters, under direction, to ensure accurate imaging.
  • Injects patients with resting radiopharmaceutical doses and stress doses as needed. Coordinates flow of imaging and stress sequences.
  • Performs SPECT and planar scans of patient as requested by clinical requisition. Explains procedure to be performed to patient prior to scan and answers any questions throughout scan.
  • Processes and archives images in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ensures patient safety is maintained at all times.
  • Responsible for maintaining a sterile environment. Ensures standard infection control precautions are observed.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment & calibration items. May order supplies/equipment/calibration items as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Receives supply orders & confirms accuracy. May assist with cost control.
  • Attends workshops, seminars and/or conferences to keep abreast of standards and best practices within the field. Disseminates information to colleagues and/or staff as appropriate.
  • Obtains continuing education credits (CME's) as required.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within the accepted scope of practice using established department procedures/protocols.
Education
  • Associate's Degree
Experience

Approximately 2 years of experience as a nuclear medicine technologist.

Approximately 2 years of experience as a CT technologist.

Approximately 2 years of experience in performing PET QA/QC and working with physicists to maintain logs, identify problems, etc

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates ability to exercise standards of professionalism, including appearance, presentation and demeanor.
  • Professional and friendly manner with patients.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current, active and unrestricted New York State License in Radiographic Technology (N).
  • ARRT (N) required; CT certification required and accepted either through ARRT or NMTCB.
  • BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands

This position requires the occasional lifting of equipment and patients; Must be able to work flexible hours and possible weekends.
