Job summary

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions in Lenexa, KS (and Knoxville, TN) seeks a Mechanical Engineering Department Manager to lead the mechanical engineering team supporting DOE and commercial nuclear projects. You will build capabilities, recruit and develop staff, and align resources with project needs.

You will set staffing priorities, promote rigorous design and checking practices, coordinate across offices, and uphold nuclear safety and quality.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressively complex experience in managing engineering activities relevant to power or nuclear market.
• Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement across multiple departments.
• Active U.S. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required; able to obtain licensure in states needed.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and growth of nuclear engineering capabilities with oversight of the Mechanical Engineering team.
• Provide direction and leadership to manage engineers and contractors, ensuring delivery.
• Develop staffing plans with Project Management and balance workload across projects and offices.
• Recruit, onboard, coach, and evaluate mechanical engineering staff; establish development and succession plans.
• Maintain department design standards and checking practices; ensure quality reviews meet project and nuclear requirements.
• Coordinate with project engineering leads and other disciplines to resolve interfaces and control design inputs and changes.
• Monitor workload and performance against budgets and schedules; address risks with Project Management.
