Job summary

Standard Nuclear is building America’s nuclear future at Idaho Falls. The Nuclear Material Control & Accountability Specialist will safeguard materials, maintain precise inventories, and ensure regulatory compliance at our fuel production facility.

This role supports DOE, NRC, and international safeguards, collaborating with engineering, operations, and EH&S. Strong data analysis, attention to detail, and prior MC&A experience are essential for success in a compliant, safety-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as materials science, physics, or chemistry.
• 3+ years experience in nuclear material control, safeguards, or regulated technical environments.
• Experience with nuclear material inventory systems and regulatory reporting.
• Familiarity with NRC/DOE safeguards requirements.
• Experience with uranium, nuclear fuel, or controlled nuclear materials preferred.
• Strong data analysis and ability to manage detailed technical records.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, quality, security, licensing, and EH&S.
• Attention to detail and ability to resolve discrepancies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate, real-time records of all nuclear materials, including acquisition, usage, transfer, and disposal.
• Conduct regular physical inventories and reconcile against accounting systems to ensure accuracy.
• Implement and oversee tamper-indicating devices, seals, and barriers for nuclear material storage and transport.
• Prepare and submit required reports to the DOE, NRC, IAEA, and other relevant authorities.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and international nuclear material control regulations.
• Support regulatory inspections, audits, and performance reviews.
• Collaborate with security teams to implement deterrence and protective measures against theft, sabotage, or diversion.
• Develop and enforce access protocols and handling procedures for sensitive materials.
• Investigate discrepancies, losses, or potential diversion incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Work with engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to integrate MC&A controls into facility operations.
• Communicate compliance status, risks, and corrective actions clearly to leadership and stakeholders.
