Job summary

Southern Nuclear Operating Company's Plant Farley Engineering group seeks a high‑performing engineer to become a subject matter expert in nuclear plant fire protection design. Location is Plant Farley, Columbia, Alabama.

You will ensure codes and standards compliance, prepare for NRC/INPO inspections, monitor protection systems, review changes, and develop maintenance and training materials for station personnel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field preferred.
• PE license may be accepted in lieu of degree with 4+ years experience.
• Nuclear power plant experience preferred.
• SFPE/NEI/EPRI familiarity encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Provide code and program expertise; ensure program compliance with codes, standards, and regulations.
• Prepare for NRC and INPO inspections and assessments.
• Monitor testing and performance of fire protection detection and suppression systems.
• Review design and field changes for accuracy, program impact, and testing.
• Develop and improve Preventive Maintenance tasks based on corrective actions, performance monitoring, and PM feedback.
• Provide technical support for surveillance testing, fire protection pre-plans, and impairment monitoring and reporting processes.
• Ensure training and reference materials are provided to station personnel; participate in fire drills and emergency response exercises.
• Review, evaluate and respond to industry Operating Experience.
