Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a Mechanical or Civil Engineer I or II for the Carolinas Nuclear Generation/McGuire Nuclear Station team, based in Huntersville, NC. The role supports nuclear design engineering, with emphasis on pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and rotating equipment within the Mech & Civil Design Engineering group.

The position requires ABET-accredited engineering credentials, with a Master’s considered in lieu of a BS, and potential progression to higher levels depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering required (Nuclear Engineer I/II).
  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a BS.
  • Minimum 2 years engineering experience for Nuclear Engineer II.

Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical/civil technical design and project coordination.
  • Research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, determine and present recommendations to resolve issues.
  • Develop or revise design/procurement specifications or technical requirements documents to support engineering design changes.
  • Develop the scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for engineering design changes, including Stress Analysis, Structural Analysis, Dynamic/Seismic Analysis, Steel and Concrete Design.
  • Provide ongoing support of assigned engineering design changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support activities.
  • Develop or revise complex engineering calculations impacted by engineering design changes.
  • Develop licensing screens and evaluations that support engineering design changes.
  • Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents impacted by engineering design changes.
  • Specify vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, rotating equipment and other process equipment.
  • General understanding of Project Schedules and Budgets and provide weekly project status updates.
  • Accomplishment of business goals through planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
