Job summary

TerraPower seeks a Fuel Fabrication Licensing and Criticality Engineer in Bellevue, WA to lead criticality safety analyses for Natrium fuel fabrication and to integrate safety into facility and process designs. This role emphasizes licensing support, documentation, and collaboration with vendors.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in nuclear criticality safety, strong Monte Carlo methods experience, and proficiency with SCALE/MCNP/Serpent. Competitive benefits and relocation assistance are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in nuclear criticality safety, reactor physics, fuel cycle engineering, or a related field.
• Experience performing criticality safety analyses using Monte Carlo methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop nuclear criticality safety evaluations for fuel fabrication steps, fresh fuel receipt, storage, handling, inspection, and transportation operations.
• Perform criticality safety calculations using SCALE/KENO, MCNP, or similar tools for Natrium fuel fabrication and related processes.
• Establish engineered and administrative controls to ensure subcriticality under normal, abnormal, and credible accident conditions.
• Develop and maintain Criticality Safety Evaluations, Criticality Safety Limits, and supporting documentation.
• Support licensing activities by preparing technical reports and regulatory responses.
• Interface with fuel vendors and transportation organizations to support packaging, shipping, and receipt of fresh HALEU fuel.
• Develop operating procedures, training materials, and readiness reviews.
• Participate in hazard analyses, design reviews, audits, and independent technical assessments.
• Support development of criticality safety programs per ANSI/ANS-8 standards and NRC regulations.
