Job summary

Oregon State University’s School of Nuclear Science & Engineering is seeking up to three part-time Undergraduate Learning Assistants for NSE 234 in Fall 2026. The role supports course instruction by assisting with classroom and lab activities, holding office hours, and helping with grading under instructor guidance.

Ideal candidates are enrolled engineering students with a GPA above 3.25, strong communication skills, and FERPA training completion prior to starting.

Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard.
  • FERPA training must be completed prior to starting position.
  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time by USCIS; reduced course load approved by OIS.

Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill up to three part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA) positions for the School of Nuclear Science & Engineering (NSE) at Oregon State University (OSU). This position recruitment is for NSE 234, Fall 2026.

This position performs a variety of duties in support of NSE course instruction. Responsibilities may include working with the instructor to assist with classroom and lab activities, holding office hours, and helping with grading. These duties will vary depending on the specific course requirements.

Position Duties

  • Assist with in-class activities and/or labs
  • Tutor students during regular office hours and/or in the classroom
  • Grade homework, quizzes and/or exams under instructor guidance
  • May assist with managing course materials on Canvas
  • Attend weekly meetings with the instructor of record

A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required

  • Undergraduate Engineering Major
  • GPA greater than 3.25
  • Completion of course with a B or higher
  • Good communication skills
  • Students must complete FERPA training prior to starting position.

Preferred

  • Major or Minor in Nuclear Science & Engineering
  • Previous undergraduate learning assistant experience
  • Knowledge of Canvas
Working Conditions/Schedule:
  • Work may be performed in classrooms, labs, or office spaces.
  • Must be able to work between 5-20 hours per week.
