Job summary

PlainsCapital Bank in Texas seeks a Special Assets Officer to manage a portfolio of adversely graded and non-performing loans across commercial, real estate, and select consumer segments.

You will identify credit risk, develop and execute resolution strategies, and work to maximize recovery while remaining compliant with regulatory and legal requirements. The role entails interacting with attorneys, preparing concise credit narratives, and reporting recovery trends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field required.
• 5+ years of experience in commercial lending, workout or relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of credit administration and banking regulations.
• Ability to interact professionally with senior management.

Responsibilities

• Manages an assigned portfolio of non-performing loans across commercial, commercial real estate, and select consumer segments.
• Identifies emerging credit risk and recommends loan grade changes, reserves, and risk mitigation.
• Performs borrower and guarantor financial analysis to assess viability and exposure.
• Issues demand letters and notices in line with regulatory requirements.
• Manages relationships with attorneys for collections, bankruptcy, litigation, and foreclosure.
• Documents credit narratives and recommendations for management and credit committee.
• Assists borrowers with resolution options including collateral liquidation, forbearance, and refinance.
• Evaluates enforcement actions such as foreclosure and note sales.
• Creates portfolio reporting on criticized assets and recovery trends.
• Supports regulatory exams, internal audits, and special reviews.
