Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Manages an assigned portfolio of non-performing loans across commercial, commercial real estate, and select consumer segments.
  • Identifies emerging credit risk and recommends loan grade changes, reserves, and risk mitigation.
  • Performs borrower and guarantor financial analysis to assess viability and exposure.
  • Issues demand letters and notices in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Manages relationships with attorneys for collections, bankruptcy, litigation, and foreclosure.
  • Documents credit narratives and recommendations for management and credit committee.
  • Assists borrowers with resolution options including collateral liquidation, forbearance, and refinance.
  • Evaluates enforcement actions such as foreclosure and note sales.
  • Creates portfolio reporting on criticized assets and recovery trends.
  • Supports regulatory exams, internal audits, and special reviews.

Job description

PlainsCapital Bank is hiring a Special Assets Officer to manage a portfolio of adversely graded and non-performing loans across commercial, real estate, and select consumer segments. This role is responsible for identifying credit risk, developing and executing resolution strategies, recommending risk grade and reserve adjustments, and working to resolve criticized assets in a manner that maximizes recovery while remaining compliant with all regulatory and legal requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Manages an assigned portfolio of non-performing loans across commercial, commercial real estate, and select consumer segments, including full responsibility for all associated collection and workout activities.
  • Identifies emerging credit risk and recommends timely loan grade changes, specific reserves, and risk mitigation strategies in accordance with policy and regulatory guidance.
  • Performs ongoing borrower and guarantor financial analysis to assess viability, repayment capacity, and exposure. Engages directly with borrowers to resolve delinquency and non-compliance, utilizing professional negotiation and behavior-modification techniques.
  • Issues demand letters and formal notices consistent with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manages relationships with attorneys who are engaged to support their efforts, including collections, bankruptcy, litigation, foreclosure, and post-judgement collections.
  • Documents concise, well-supported credit narratives and recommendations for management and credit committee review.
  • Assists borrowers with resolution options, including collateral liquidation, forbearance and refinance.
  • Evaluates and executes enforcement actions, including foreclosure, judgment remedies, note sales, and charge-off recommendations.
  • Creates and maintains portfolio-level reporting on criticized assets and recovery trends, including reports for internal management, auditors, and regulators.
  • Supports regulatory exams, internal audits, and special reviews related to problem assets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or other related field required.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial lending, workout or relevant experience.
  • Highly skilled in commercial lending workout across product/asset types including commercial loans, inventory/floorplan finance, commercial real estate
  • Demonstrated knowledge of credit administration and analysis, as well as banking laws and regulations/regulatory requirements
  • Ability to interface effectively and professionally with senior/executive level management.
  • Excellent PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products as well as custom applications and systems
  • Excellent analytical, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment
  • Must be self-motivated with strong initiative, accountability, and attention to detail
  • Must have excellent judgement and decision-making skills with the ability to effectively resolve escalated concerns from the staff and stakeholders
