Job summary

Clopay Corporation currently seeks an NPD Design Engineer for our Mountaintop facility. Design new products, improve existing ones, and lead prototype development through CAD, testing, and engineering change processes.

You will collaborate with project engineers, technicians, and cross‑functional teams to ensure compliance with codes and standards. The role emphasizes hands‑on design, 3D modeling, and integration into ERP systems, with focus on safety, quality, and manufacturability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or 5–7+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong mechanical intuition and hands-on aptitude.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD using Inventor or SolidWorks.
• Experience with Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Hands-on with basic tools and shop floor debugging.

Responsibilities

• Work with Project Engineers to design new parts and systems for overhead doors.
• Use Autodesk Inventor to create part/assembly drawings and apply drafting standards.
• Develop prototypes with technicians and maintain shop area.
• Create engineering standards and calculations for variable designs.
• Implement new products via engineering change orders and ERP updates.
• Collaborate with legal to write patents on novel designs.
• Perform analyses (FEA, wind load, fasteners) and validate designs.
• Edit BOMs and source parts, integrating designs into ERP.
• Design test plans, fixtures, and coordinate testing; generate test reports.
• Develop installation instructions and pursue continuous improvement.
