Job summary

Clopay Corporation is seeking an NPD Design Engineer at the Mountaintop facility to design and refine overhead-door systems. You will participate in R&D, prototyping, sourcing, testing, and manufacturing integration with cross-functional teams.

Ideal candidates have a mechanical engineering background and strong CAD skills (Inventor or SolidWorks), plus hands-on prototyping experience and the ability to navigate engineering changes and ERP workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or 5–7+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong mechanical intuition and hands-on aptitude for mechanisms.
• Proficient with 3D CAD using Inventor or SolidWorks; capable with Vault.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design new parts and systems for overhead doors with Project Engineers.
• Use Autodesk Inventor to create part and assembly drawings and layouts.
• Develop prototypes with technicians and maintain the shop area.
• Develop engineering standards and calculations for variable designs.
• Implement new products via engineering change orders.
• Coordinate with legal for patent writing on novel designs.
• Perform analyses (FEA, wind load, structural fasteners).
• Maintain BOMs and edit ERP systems to reflect changes.
• Design test plans and fixtures and coordinate testing.
• Be dedicated, self-initiating, and passionate about mechanical design.
