POSITION SUMMARY

An Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Northwest Illinois AHEC Program Director leads and manages regional health education programs, community partnerships, and workforce development. Key duties include overseeing operations, securing grant funding, and building academic-community partnerships. The Northwest Illinois AHEC Program Director will be responsible in connecting students to careers, professionals to communities and communities to better health in collaboration to the regional AHEC center and Rochelle Community Hospital. Northwest Illinois AHEC Program Director will provide visionary, mission oriented and executive leadership to enable fulfillment of the essential functions of Rochelle Community Hospital; to direct, supervise and guide staff, and to generate and sustain supportive linkages for programs and services provided/implemented by the agency. The Northwest Illinois AHEC Program Director plays a critical role in addressing healthcare disparities and improving access to quality care in their region.

Education:
Minimum Required:
  • Master's degree in administration, healthcare, education, or a related field; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in health-related field with 6-10 years of health education/health promotion related experience and/or training.
Licensure/Certification or credentials:
Experience Level:
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience; particularly in a not-for-profit environment.
Skills/Competency:
  • Strong Leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a large population of entities and individuals.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience in public speaking, presentation, training, and precepting.
  • Effective writing skills and competency using word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, Microsoft Office suite.
  • Good budgeting to manage program operations.
  • Ability to utilize the internet for funding sources and applications
  • Data tracking capabilities.
  • Experience in education in healthcare.
  • Must be self-directed and independent in decision making process
  • Ability to handle a multitude of tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to manage complex programs and operational processes, including proposal writing and grant administration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ACTIVITIES:

Working in hospitals/clinics involves interacting with patients-other staff-providers-public, etc. and exposure to communicable disease, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, cleaning fluids, medical waste, radiation and other hazardous conditions common to the healthcare environment. Physical Demands/Activities:
  • The ideal candidate must be able to perform essential job functions and complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Collaboration is constant. Staff must frequently communicate with patients, doctors, nurses, technicians, other staff, administrative personnel and outside customers.
  • Communication- Ability to accurately, clearly and effectively exchange information, ideas, and feedback with diverse teams, patients, community, visitors, medical staff and clients. Strong written and interpersonal skills, with an openness to adapting communication methods to ensure team accessibility and excellent patient care.
  • Exertion: LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a small amount of force up to 10 lbs. frequently to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.
  • Mobility: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer along with some walking, standing.
  • Travel: Will require travel attend regional centers, schools, community outreach areas, events, etc.
  • Data Analytical: Comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating.
