Job summary

Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) in Denver is seeking a Staff Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting operations and support the organization’s mission of developing women and gender-diverse leaders in higher education.

The role reports to the Fractional CFAO and involves AP/AR, payroll, reconciliations, and financial data management in Salesforce and QuickBooks, while ensuring GAAP compliance and confidential handling of records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Three or more years of accounting experience.
• Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Experience with Salesforce.
• Experience working with restricted funds, grants, or scholarship programs.
• Experience in higher education or mission-driven organizations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.
• Maintain Salesforce and QuickBooks data.
• Prepare budget-to-actual reports and GAAP-compliant records.
• Support audits and annual budget reviews.
• Coordinate vendor onboarding and payments.
• Provide financial support to staff and external partners.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
