Job summary

Fight Colorectal Cancer is seeking a Staff Accountant to safeguard the nonprofit’s financial health. You will manage day-to-day accounting, payroll, and monthly reporting to the Board, while overseeing grants and contracts and ensuring GAAP compliance.

You will work with the Budget Analyst to review budgets, forecasts, and reports, and you will train staff on financial reports and interpretations. On-site role in Springfield, MO.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• 4+ years of accounting experience with payroll processing and administration.
• Experience presenting financial reports to a board, leadership, or funders.
• Experience overseeing grants and contracts, including budget tracking and reporting.
• Experience administering retirement plan contributions.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including management reporting.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit financial compliance.
• Understanding of internal controls and separation of duties.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to teach or mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly financial reporting to the Board of Directors with clear, error-free statements and dashboards.
• Meet monthly with the Treasurer to review statements, budget-to-actual, cash position, and risks.
• Lead monthly meetings to inform employees of financial standing in clear terms and train staff.
• Cross-review budgets, forecasts, and reports with the Budget Analyst for accuracy and consistency.
• Oversee grants and contracts, track spend, ensure grant terms compliance, and prepare reports.
• Maintain general ledger and process accounts payable/receivable with accurate coding.
