Job summary

Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors in New York seeks a Controller to lead internal finance and accounting. You will design controls, oversee the monthly close, and ensure GAAP compliance.

You will manage the general ledger, supervision of accounting staff, coordinate with auditors, prepare Form 990, and support budgeting and forecasting while partnering with operations and relationship managers.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Business with accounting emphasis; CPA required.
• Minimum 5 years nonprofit accounting management experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
• Experience with nonprofit operations, including accounts payable and reconciliations.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Commitment to building a diverse team.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including presenting to senior management and board.
• Hands-on manager with attention to detail and strategic focus.
• Familiarity with grantmaking or fiscal sponsorship preferred.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the CFO; design, implement and manage internal controls and financial policies.
• Lead the accounting team; supervise and develop staff.
• Oversee monthly close and dissemination of financial reports per GAAP.
• Manage general ledger including revenue, accounts payable, and allocations.
• Coordinate external audits; prepare audit workpapers and liaise with auditors.
• Prepare Form 990 and ensure regulatory compliance (1099s, A-133).
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cross-functional financial analysis.
• Collaborate with operations staff and relationship managers to provide financial insights.
• Develop and maintain efficient business processes and internal controls.
