Job summary

The Controller at Nebraska Children’s Home Society, Inc. oversees day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance for both the Society and Foundation. You will lead GAAP-based processes, month-end close, and audit preparation under the CFO.

This nonprofit role emphasizes grants accounting, budgeting support, internal controls, and coordination with external auditors, with emphasis on accuracy, integrity, and timely reporting to leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
• CPA or Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting, general ledger management, and month-end and year-end close processes.
• 3–5 years of supervisory experience, or experience managing the work of a contracted accounting services provider.
• Experience preparing for and coordinating annual financial audits, Single Audits, and working directly with external auditors.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting, including restricted funds, grant accounting, fund accounting, and grant-funded organizations, strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations: GL, A/P, A/R, reconciliations.
• Ensure GAAP-compliant recording of transactions and timely month-end/year-end closes.
• Coordinate annual financial audits, Single Audit, and grant audits with external auditors.
• Prepare documentation for IRS Form 990 and regulatory filings.
• Manage grants, contracts, donations, and restricted funds accounting and reporting.
• Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and liquidity reporting.
• Lead coordination between Society and Foundation accounting activities.
