Job summary

Volunteers of America Southwest in San Diego seeks an experienced Accounting Manager to lead daily accounting activities and oversee month-end close for nonprofit programs. The role requires supervising staff, coordinating grants and fund accounting, and preparing financial statements while maintaining strong internal controls and regulatory compliance.

You will work with the CFO on audits, budgets, and forecast planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting experience with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end/year-end close processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily accounting activities and assign work to staff to ensure timely, accurate closings.
• Coordinate month-end and year-end close, monitor deadlines and escalate issues to CFO.
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements for accuracy and compliance.
• Oversee grant and fund accounting activities, including reporting and allocations.
• Support annual budget development and forecasting; assist audits and government reporting.
