Job summary

Washington State House of Representatives, Office of Program Research, seeks nonpartisan Session Committee Assistants. These full-time, temporary, exempt-from-civil-service roles support research staff and House committees, manage meeting materials, and assist with planning and equipment during sessions. Onsite in Olympia, regular hours 8:00 a.m.

– 5:00 p.m., with evenings/weekends possible during sessions. Salary is $4,385–$4,697 monthly, benefits not included.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Adobe, Zoom and related apps.
• Ability to learn specialized committee support software.
• Excellent proofreading and attention to detail.
• Strong multi-tasking and planning under deadlines.
• Proactive, flexible, collaborative and service-oriented.
• Excellent communication with varied audiences in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work long, irregular hours during sessions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, proofread, and/or edit documents.
• Provide clerical and administrative support to OPR staff and House committees.
• Prepare and maintain official committee materials and files.
• Assist with planning and organizing committee meetings.
• Operate hearing room equipment for committee meetings.
• Facilitate in-person and remote participation in committee meetings.
• Track the progress of bills.
• Provide information to legislators, staff, lobbyists, media, and the public.
• Work independently and with OPR staff and external partners.
• Maintain nonpartisanship, objectivity and confidentiality.
