Job summary

Randstad USA is seeking an experienced Controller for a mission‑driven nonprofit. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will oversee daily finance, accounting, and financial reporting, lead the accounting team, streamline processes, strengthen internal controls, and support strategic decision‑making for executive leadership and the Board.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in Finance or Accounting (CPA preferred), 6+ years in finance with at least 4 in a managerial role, and non‑profit grant

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business preferred; CPA is a strong plus.
  • 6+ years of progressive financial systems experience, with at least 4 years in a managerial/supervisory role.
  • Prior non-profit sector experience strongly preferred, including government/public agency contracts and grant administration.
  • Experience with specialized non-profit accounting software (e.g., AccuFund) is a plus.
  • Strong project management and communication skills; ability to handle confidential data and drive process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Direct general accounting functions, monthly/annual close, AP/AR, payroll, and grant administration in compliance with GAAP.
  • Prepare internal and external financial statements, cash flow projections, regulatory filings, and tax schedules (IRS Form 990).
  • Lead annual audit preparation, coordinate with external auditors, and maintain robust internal controls (including OMB Circular standards).
  • Partner with senior leadership to design, manage, and monitor annual budgets and expenditure controls.
  • Manage, mentor, and evaluate finance staff, fostering a collaborative and quality-focused work environment.
  • Maintain banking relationships and drive continuous process quality improvements across financial systems.

Job description

A leading, mission-driven non-profit organization is seeking an experienced Controller. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will oversee all day-to-day finance, accounting, and financial reporting functions. This individual will lead the accounting team, streamline processes, ensure strong internal controls, and support financial decision‑making for executive management and the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accounting & Financial Operations: Direct general accounting functions, monthly/annual closing procedures, AP/AR, payroll, and grant administration in compliance with GAAP.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare internal and external financial statements, cash flow projections, regulatory filings, and tax schedules (IRS Form 990).

  • Budgeting & Planning: Partner with senior leadership to design, manage, and monitor annual budgets and expenditure controls.

Qualifications & Experience
