Job Description

The Adjunct – Architecture position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. The Adjunct role provides instruction and monitors teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair, or other leadership members.

Essential Job Functions

• Instruction & Student Learning: Teaches assigned courses as scheduled, assumes primary responsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with department policies, ensuring rigor of programs and quality of instruction. Designs curriculum embracing diversity, models inclusive teaching strategies, considers individual differences of students, participates in identifying students with academic or other needs, uses technology appropriately, maintains accurate records, submits grades timely, distributes accurate syllabi, conducts classes punctually, employs assessment techniques, and attends periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson.
• Student Engagement & Advisement: Creates a positive classroom atmosphere encouraging active learning, maintains posted office hours, uses technology for communication, encourages community among students, advises potential or current students, and refers students to appropriate support services.
• Culture of Respect: Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members.
• Other Duties: Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required; attends all required department meetings and training as requested.

Minimum Education and Experience

Must have a Master’s degree in the discipline or its equivalent, and a professional degree in a design‑related field is desired. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work sites. An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of: online instruction techniques, Microsoft Office, Blackboard or other student support systems, internet research, online communication and record‑keeping.
• Skill in: providing quality instruction, learning technologies, multimedia technology, instructional planning and presentation, critical thinking, effective communication, time management.
• Ability to: communicate effectively, create engaging learning environments, respect diverse viewpoints, work independently, meet deadlines, perform student learning outcomes, maintain confidential information (FERPA).

Working Conditions

Typical office environment with moderate noise typical of business offices.

Compensation

Compensation: $55.88 per contact hour. Contact hour is two hours. Hours: maximum of 12 contact hours per week. Position is part time.
