Job summary

The New York City Comptroller’s Office seeks an Agency Attorney to serve as the principal litigation liaison to the New York City Law Department on First-Party and Third-Party No-Fault matters. You will guide claims strategy and coordinate with Fiscal Services and Marshal’s Office on No-Fault judgments and settlements.

Requirements include admission to the New York State Bar and at least one year of post-admission legal experience, or six months as an Agency Attorney Intern.

Qualifications

• Admitted to the New York State Bar; and either one year of satisfactory United States legal experience after admission, or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Intern.
• Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal liaison attorney to the New York City Law Department on all First- and Third-Party No-Fault litigation matters.
• Provide legal direction to the City Law Department on First- and Third-Party No-Fault litigation matters.
• Coordinate with the Office of NYC Comptroller Fiscal Services and Marshal’s Office on judgments and settlements.
• Negotiate and settle First-Party, Third-Party, and UM/UIM claims within delegated monetary authority.
• Maintain accurate claim files and analyze liability and damages.
• Investigate, identify, and report fraudulent claims and provide risk management recommendations.
• Communicate effectively with Comptroller staff, city agencies, claimants, and attorneys.
