Job summary

National Math + Science Initiative (NMSI) invites skilled coaches to join our team as part-time, remote educators. You will design and deliver professional development for math, science, and English educators, both online and in person, while developing curricular resources for diverse districts nationwide.

  • Ability to facilitate online and in-person professional development.
  • Experience using LMS platforms (Maple, Canvas, Google Classroom).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver professional development for teachers and leaders online and in-person.
  • Develop, edit, pilot curricular materials for educators and students.
  • Produce and deliver customized trainings for partner districts.
  • Develop new educational content, including model activities, lessons, and units.
  • Model teaching strategies and content-driven activities for NMSI stakeholders.

NMSI Coaches partner with teachers and school leaders in both virtual and in-person settings to strengthen instructional practices and improve student achievement in Math, Science, and English classrooms.

NMSI is currently seeking coaches with at least three years of experience in the following areas:

  • Math:
    • Grades 3-5
  • Science:
    • Grades 3-5
    • Grades 6-8
    • High School Science
    • AP Chemistry
    • AP Environmental Science
    • AP Physics 1
  • Leadership:
    • Campus or district-level leadership experience
What You'll Do All Day

As a Coach, you will play an essential role in advancing our mission. You will collaborate with a passionate team to craft and implement strategies that elevate the future of math and science education. The Coach directly impacts our mission by supporting our professional development services through Content Workshops, Vertical Team Trainings, Curriculum Implementation Trainings, 1:1 Coaching, and STEM Leadership Workshops.

Your day-to-day activities will include:

  • Delivering professional development for teachers and leaders in both online and in-person environments (in-person events may require single or multi-day travel)
  • Developing, editing, and piloting curricular materials for educators and students
  • Producing and delivering customized and tailored training events for partner districts
  • Developing new educational content, including model activities, lessons, and units for educators and student audiences
  • Modeling teaching strategies and content-driven activities for NMSI stakeholders
  • Sharing feedback and insights from training to inform future programming
  • Serving as an ambassador for NMSI and NMSI's mission and values to schools, teachers, and students
  • Promoting NMSI in your professional networks and support coach recruitment as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

The Coach will report to a Manager, Program Design & Innovation and is a temporary part-time hourly position offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within the contiguous United States. Occasional travel is required for in-person meetings, conferences, and events.

What We're Looking For

We seek individuals who have:

  • Experience: Deep knowledge of content, pedagogy, and instructional practices, with at least three years of teaching experience within a specific K-12 content area or grade band.
  • College-Readiness Expertise: Strong familiarity with state and national teaching standards related to college readiness, including frameworks such as AP assessment standards, the Common Core State Standards, and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
  • Understanding of Effective Teaching and/or School Leadership: Demonstrated understanding of what effective teaching and school leadership look like, along with a strong commitment to rigorous, high-quality instruction.
  • Technology Proficiency: Ability to facilitate learning experiences in an online learning management system (LMS) such as Maple, Canvas, or Google Classroom. Skills include, but are not limited to:
    • Navigating and creating course content within an LMS such as Maple or Google Classroom
    • Designing engaging learning experiences for teachers and students using content authoring tools such as Articulate
  • Expert Communicator: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, direct, and constructive feedback.
  • Flexibility: Comfortable working in an evolving environment with competing priorities. Availability and flexibility to support school-day events as needed is a plus.
  • Growth Mindset: Demonstrates a willingness to learn from challenges, actively give and receive feedback, and commit to ongoing professional development in adult learning and facilitation.
  • Commitment: Ability to facilitate up to 100+ hours of teacher- or leader-facing events throughout the program year. While many events occur during the summer, some weekday and Saturday events may take place during the school year.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience with STEM-focused learning, work in high-need schools or with high-need populations, and a demonstrated record of improving student achievement. AP Reader experience is preferred for coaches supporting AP teachers and students. Experience coaching teachers in modifying, adapting, or extending curricula to better meet student needs and facilitating professional development is also preferred.

The starting hourly range for this position is $35.00, commensurate with experience. We take pay equity seriously and strive to ensure fair compensation for all team members. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:
