Job summary

Scarinci Hollenbeck, LLC is seeking a skilled New Jersey Public Litigation Attorney to join our growing Public Law practice. This role focuses on managing complex municipal and civil matters while advising government entities and mentoring junior attorneys.

You’ll lead cases through all phases, including pre-suit, discovery, motions, trial, and appeals, and collaborate with senior partners to balance public policy goals with client needs in a fast-paced public-sector environment.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctoral degree from an accredited school of law.
• Admitted to practice law in New Jersey; New York admission a plus.
• 5+ years of civil litigation experience, including public law or government-related cases.

Responsibilities

• Lead all phases of public litigation cases, including pre-suit investigations, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals.
• Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, and briefs in compliance with court rules and deadlines.
• Advise municipalities, boards of education, and government officials on a range of legal rights, obligations, and policy matters.
• Develop case strategies in collaboration with senior partners and clients, balancing legal risk with public policy considerations.
• Manage prerogative writ proceedings from petition through oral argument.
• Represent clients in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, delivering persuasive arguments and managing case logistics.
• Mentor and oversee associates, delegating tasks, reviewing work, and providing substantive feedback.
• Research and monitor legislative developments, advising clients on potential impact of new laws or regulations.
• Maintain detailed case files, billing records, and client communications to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Job Summary

We’re seeking a driven, detail-oriented attorney with more than 5 years of litigation experience to join our Public Law practice. In this role, you’ll manage complex matters—including civil litigation and prerogative writ actions- while advising municipal entities and boards of education, and supervising junior attorneys. The ideal candidate thrives on developing strategy, managing procedural details, and delivering exceptional advocacy at both the trial and appellate levels.

• Represent clients in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, delivering persuasive arguments and managing case logistics.
• Mentor and oversee associates, delegating tasks, reviewing work, and providing substantive feedback.
• Research and monitor legislative developments, advising clients on the potential impact of new laws or regulations.
• Maintain detailed case files, billing records, and client communications to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Required Skills

• Juris Doctoral degree from an accredited school of law.
• Admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey required; New York admission a plus.
• 5+ years of civil litigation experience, including at least two years in public law or government-related cases.
• Demonstrated experience drafting high-quality pleadings, motions, and appellate briefs.
• Proven ability to manage associates and multiple active cases under tight deadlines.
• Strong knowledge of municipal, education, and administrative law.
• Exceptional research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Existing client relationships or portable business a plus.
• Analytical thinker with the ability to interpret complex statutes and regulations.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to procedural details and deadlines.
• A collaborative leader who communicates clearly and provides constructive mentorship.
• Strategic mindset that balances legal theory with client goals and public interest.
• Proficiency in LexisNexis, Westlaw, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Adaptable and composed in fast-paced public-sector litigation environments.

Work Schedule

• Full-time, exempt.
• Little Falls, NJ; Red Bank, NJ.
• Salary negotiated based on years’ experience and portable book of business.
