Job summary

James Madison University’s Facilities Management is seeking a Trades Utilities Night Supervisor to oversee a crew of 6 to 10 employees and manage work orders and emergency calls at night. Responsibilities include directing skilled trades and ensuring timely repairs across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and building systems.

The role requires strong leadership, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to handle night shifts in a complex campus environment.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of the building maintenance crafts and systems including doors, locks, closures and hardware, plaster, paint, carpentry, masonry, floor surface maintenance and repair, furniture repair, plumbing and electrical and HVAC.
• Knowledge of electrical, carpentry, plumbing repairs and ability to perform moderately difficult trades/utilities work.
• Ability to supervise and have open communication with employees.
• Must have a valid driver’s license; at least 19 years old and licensed for at least 24 months.

Responsibilities

• Supervising and directing utilities employees.
• Handling emergency calls as needed.
• Record keeping of building basic needs or repairs.
• Keeping track of work orders and the administration of jobs to appropriate employees.
• Repair or redirect work orders to appropriate FM department.
• Electrical duties including installation, repair, removal and replacement of lighting fixtures; testing and replacement of components.
• Plumbing duties including troubleshooting, repair, replacement and installation of various plumbing accessories; checking water conditioners.
• Carpentry duties including installation and maintenance of surfaces; door hardware; furniture repair and shelving.
• Fabrication, repair and maintenance of building fixtures from various materials.
