Job summary

IU Health is seeking a full-time Night shift unit clerk/ PCA hybrid role. The position combines direct patient care with unit clerical duties to support the patient care team in the department.

Responsibilities include patient care under a Clinical Nurse, maintaining a clean patient environment, guiding physicians, patients and visitors, and scheduling tests or procedures when needed. Experience in acute care and completion of PCA training are valued, with CPR/BLS as applicable.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR may be required to complete Unit Secretary training program.
• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or IU Health PCA program.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department.
• Administers care under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and supports the patient care team.
• Keeps environment clean and orderly for patients.
• Provides information and directions to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May schedule tests and procedures and maintain patient records.
• May handle equipment and supply ordering, receiving and delivery for the patient care team.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
