Job summary

Safeway is seeking a Person In Charge (PIC) to serve as the primary contact for customers and to lead store operations in the absence of the Store Manager. The PIC will supervise employees, act as cashier-checker, and ensure maximum profitability, efficiency, and superior customer service.

Night shifts may be required, with responsibilities across departments, enforcing policies, and maintaining a safe, organized store environment while supporting cashiers and staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering friendly, courteous service to customers.
• Ability to handle emergencies and customer complaints calmly.
• Ability to supervise store personnel in the manager's absence.
• Understanding of company policies and procedures for store operations.
• Ability to work independently and in various store departments.
• Previous clerk or store manager experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service per company policy and standards.
• Handle emergencies, complaints, accidents, and supervise staff when needed.
• Familiarity with store policies and procedures is essential.
• Supervise the sales floor and ensure stock is replenished.
• Replenish stock in display areas around the checkout.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment in the store.
• Assist other cashiers with register issues and technical problems.
• Perform basic office tasks to assist customers and personnel.
• Operate the cash register, total customer purchases, and give correct change.
• Bag groceries and assist customers with carrying out if needed.
• May perform close of day tasks and count tills as required.
• Other duties as assigned by store management.
