Job summary

The City of Norfolk’s Wastewater Division seeks an Equipment Operator III to operate heavy equipment such as backhoes and jet/vactor cleaners, transport crew, and perform routine maintenance. Must have two years’ experience as an Equipment Operator and a valid CDL; Class A preferred. Lifts up to 75 lbs and may require Tanker endorsement within six months.

Shift: 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m., with 10% differential. Work location: Combined Operations Center, 1316 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as an Equipment Operator.
• Valid driver's license; CDL required; tanker endorsement may be required within six months.
• Class A CDL preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs; ability to climb, stand, bend, and work extended hours.

Responsibilities

• Operate construction and wastewater maintenance equipment.
• Transport crew and materials to job sites.
• Perform safety checks and routine maintenance on equipment.
• Assist with loading/unloading and keeping work areas clean.
