Job summary

IU Health Avon is seeking a Unit Secretary for a full-time night shift to provide direct patient care and clerical support to the patient care team.

You will assist with patient flow, scheduling tests, maintaining records, and guiding physicians, patients and visitors. Role may include equipment logistics and ensuring a safe, clean environment, with suicide prevention coverage as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR may be required to complete Unit Secretary training program.
• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Requires current BLS certification or attainment through IU Health PCA program.
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires knowledge of infection control principles.
• Requires basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care and unit clerical duties.
• Maintains patient records and signs patients in and out of the unit.
• Schedules tests and procedures for the patient and coordinates with the care team.
• Keeps a clean, orderly environment for patients and staff.
• Assists physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors with information.
• May handle equipment and supplies for the patient care team.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention where required.
