Job summary

IU Health Avon is seeking a Unit Secretary/Patient Care Assistant to support the patient care team. You will provide direct patient care and clerical support, keep the unit orderly, and assist with scheduling, record-keeping, and check-ins and check-outs of patients.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, CPR/BLS certification, and basic knowledge of medical terminology and infection control. Prior acute care experience or PCA training is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR/BLS certification required or to be completed.
• Previous acute patient care experience or completion of IU Health PCA education program.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Infection control principles knowledge.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and unit clerical support under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Assist the patient care team and keep the environment clean and orderly.
• Offer information, directions, and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• Schedule tests and procedures, maintain patient records, and sign patients in/out of the unit.
• Possibly order, receive and deliver equipment and supplies for the unit.
• Provide continuous observation including suicide prevention as required.
