Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in San Diego is seeking a Surgical Technologist I to assist the surgical team in the operating room, preparing and organizing the sterile field and passing instruments during procedures while maintaining aseptic conditions.

Responsibilities include draping, tissue retraction, hemostasis assistance, instrument counts, and preparing sutures and dressings. Requires prior OR scrub experience or completion of an OR training program and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of operating room or military equivalent experience in scrub role within the last two years or recent completion of operating room training program.
• Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.

Responsibilities

• Assists physician during surgery as a member of surgical team. Passes instruments and supplies as directed.
• Scrubs and conforms to sterile technique for each procedure.
• Assists in draping the patient and positioning as directed.
• Provides tissue retraction and can hold retractor under surgeon guidance.
• Counts instruments, sponges, and supplies with circulating nurse.
• Prepares suture for closure and applies surgical dressings as directed.
• Recognizes and responds to acute emergencies following procedures.
