Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, IA seeks a Surgical Technologist for night shift responsibilities in preparing the OR for cases, instrumentation, and sterile technique, while supporting the circulating nurse and surgeon. You will work to maintain asepsis, assist with room setup, and contribute to high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a surgical technologist program is required, or graduate of an LPN program with surgical experience.
• Certification as a surgical technologist preferred.
• LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
• Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintain status.
• Mandatory Reporting training for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse required before employment or within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Assist the circulating nurse in assessing the patients' needs and helps to develop and implement the plan of care.
• Provide care to all surgical patients in accordance with the operating room’s performance standards and AORN standards.
• Assist in setting up rooms.
• Secure safe transport of the patient as needed.
• Confirm correct surgical site, prepare pre-operative site, instrument the case, manage sterile field and specimens, and turnover the room under supervision.
• Develop and maintain knowledge in all surgical specialties.
