Job summary

Saint Joseph Mercy Health System in Livonia, MI is seeking a Plant Boiler Operator to maintain steam, hot water and related systems in the central plant during the night shift.

You will start/stop boilers, operate chilled water equipment, monitor diesel generators for emergency power, test water chemistry, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires appropriate licenses and prior central plant experience; you will work with a team to keep campus energy services reliable.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Boiler license (High Pressure) from Detroit, Dearborn or equivalent.
• First Class Refrigeration License from Detroit, Dearborn or equivalent.
• State license with #8 Unlimited Refrigeration acceptable in lieu of city license.
• EPA Refrigerant certification (Universal) is required.

Responsibilities

• Start/Stop Boilers and maintain steam supply for campus heating and other needs.
• Operate and monitor chilled water systems in the central plant.
• Monitor four 2000 KW diesel generators for emergency power.
• Test and treat boiler water and related condensate and cooling water chemistry.
• Inspect plant machinery; repair and adjust with coworkers or contractors as needed.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and safety practices.
• Monitor Metasys and respond to alarms; coordinate with the facilities team.
• Maintain Medical and Control Air compressors in the central plant.
