Laredo Medical Center in Laredo, TX is seeking an RN for the Step Down Unit Nights to deliver patient-centered care using the nursing process, coordinate care with physicians and the team, and ensure quality outcomes.

The role emphasizes patient/family education, safe medication administration, infection control, and participation in performance improvement initiatives within a supportive community hospital environment.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of experience in a clinical nursing role or student clinical rotations in an acute care setting required.
• Active RN license in TX or compact state required.
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required; ACLS/PALS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient-centered care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation).
• Coordinate with physicians, nurses, and other staff to deliver high-quality care.
• Administer prescribed medications and monitor for adverse effects.
• Assist physicians during procedures within competency.
• Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care.
• Maintain infection control and safety standards at all times.
• Document care thoroughly in the medical record.
• Respond to emergencies and participate in code team activities.
