Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) for the Hospital Observation Unit on the night shift (1900-0730). The role requires NY RN licensure with preferred BSN and acute care experience.

Qualifications

• Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and at least one year of hospital acute care experience.
• Only licensed nurse experience in an acute care facility will be counted toward RN1 experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient’s condition and coordinate nursing care with other health disciplines involved in the treatment effort.
• Develop a written individualized care plan including teaching needs and discharge planning.
• Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
• Administer medications.
• Practice infection control and maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Communicates changes in patient’s condition to Charge RN/Clinician.
• Develops and maintains the written plan of care for assigned patients and sets priorities.
• Documents patient/family teaching and verifies understanding with the patient.
