Job summary

MercyOne Health System in Iowa is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to perform patient assessment, select appropriate therapy, administer treatments, consult with physicians and other providers, run diagnostic tests, and monitor equipment across age groups from neonates to geriatrics.

Essential duties include inhaled medication therapy, arterial blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing, chest physiotherapy, oxygen, CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator support, plus device setup and maintenance.

Qualifications

• Must be credentialed as a certified or registered respiratory therapist.
• Must have an active license as a respiratory care practitioner in Iowa.
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
• ACLS certification preferred within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs inhaled medication therapy, arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing, chest physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, CPAP/BIPAP therapy, and ventilatory support modalities as ordered.
• Participates in CPR, assists or performs intubation, manages artificial airway, and transports patients requiring ventilatory support.
• Assembles, manipulates, and troubleshoots Respiratory Care equipment including ventilators, pulse oximeters, capnometers, aerosol generators, and gas delivery systems.
• Interprets diagnostic results such as blood gases, co-oximetry, pulmonary function tests, and end-tidal CO2.
• Performs record keeping, billing and medical record documentation functions.
• Provides patient instruction in the use of Respiratory Care devices and procedures.
